How Does the Defenders Program Work?

The program is open to everyone of all ages who are willing and  able to memorize Scripture and catechism questions.  Our prayer is that everyone will participate.  This is not mandatory of course, but yet another tool to help all of us understand scripture and the beliefs of our church and then remember it for times of temptation, witnessing, comforting others, etc…

Scripture verses and catechism questions are selected at the beginning of each year and placed on a Memory Card. These Memory Cards will come out every six months, starting in January.   The basic program will include two Scripture verses or one verse and one catechism question for each month.  We will be using the New King James Version for Scripture memory.  The selected verses will focus on God’s wisdom for our lives as well as themes in Scripture that speak to our faith, life and Christian teachings.  The is called the Blue Memory List Program.

There is a second program available for those who find memorization difficult.  This program will only include one short memorization each month.  This program will only memorize the bold portion of a selected text.  This is called the Red Memory List Program.  So we will all be learning the same verse or portion of that verse together.

If we were learning Psalm 145:8, “The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in loving kindness,” those that are not able to memorize the whole verse would just memorize the bold text.
