Special Tips For Children

  1. Explain unfamiliar words;

  2. Have your child say the reference  (e.g., “Psalm1:1”), say the verse, then repeat the reference;

  3. You can say  a section, then have your child repeat, and so on, gradually allowing your child to say  more of the entire verse;

  4. Help your child understand and apply the passage;

  5. For older children, have them explain the passage and what it should mean to him/her personally;

  6. Have your child draw a picture to explain the meaning;

  7. Make a puzzle with one or two words on each puzzle piece.  Mix up the pieces and have your child put it back together;

  8. Write the passage on paper, on flash cards, or on an erasable board and erase one word.  Have your child say the entire passage.  Erase another word and have your child say it again.  Continue erasing one word at a time until your child can say the entire passage from memory.
